This document briefly explains the differences between 01.com's
Zimbra Shared and Dedicated Hosting, and Remote Server Maintenance, or
Professional Services.
1. Shared Server Hosting.
Your own, private space and domain hosted on software, servers and
systems administration whose costs are shared by the 01.com shared
hosting community.
01.com delivers shared server hosting as an
end-to-end, soup-to-nuts, complete solution for organizations to enjoy
the benefits of the Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) without having to
manage the complexity of tech support, data back-up, hosting, power,
systems administration, computer servers, software licensing, updates,
upgrades, internet connectivity, and security.
Organizations pay a
monthly fee to leverage 01.com's investment in infrastructure and
expertise. The monthly fee depends on service variables set independently
by the customer through their domain administrator, a kind of web control panel.
Once a month, the
01.com system counts the service variables, sending a report/analysis
with the expected price to the designated Billing account manager (designated in the Billing Manager). About a week
later, the 01.com system sends a billing report/analysis, upon which
clients are invoiced and automatically charged.
2. Dedicated Server Hosting.
Similar to Shared Server Hosting *except* instead of having your data
on the same servers with other organizations, your data is not only
logically separate, but also physically separate, and stored on its own
computer server hardware, typically at our one of our carrier-class
data centers.
01.com then can provide licensing, monitoring, maintenance
and support for your server, and other services, such as 24x7
tier 1 help desk, firewalling, stand-by servers, encryption gateways (such as PGP server) or data
backup, as needed. And when hosted on a dedicated server, you can still take advantage of our custom, advanced
spam and virus filtering. We also can supply virtual servers, which deliver the
flexibility of a dedicated hardware solution, at a lower price, to
organizations that may not yet require a server of their own. Dedicated
server hosting does not normally provide better performance than Shared
server hosting, it provides more flexibility, customization and
control. All costs are ala carte, as with #3, below.
3. Remote Server Licensing, Installation, Migration, Integration, Maintenance and Support
If you're going to run the server yourself at your own office or data
center, you can cherry-pick just the services you need from 01.com.
Common things organizations purchase from us include:
- The license for Zimbra and Zimbra mobile
(same price as Zimbra direct, including discounts for multi-year and
education and government)
- Up-and-running installation and
migration services (IMAP, iMail, Exchange, Kerio, Communigate, Apple Server Mail, and
Groupwise are typical migrations)
- Server Care remote installation, monitoring, maintenance and support plans with SLAs
- Blackberry OTA synchronization
- On premise user and help desk training, a best-practices approach
- 24x7 Tier 1 Help Desk for other Help Desk, or for end-users (unlimited, web-based AJAX ticketing system, 24/7 phone support)
