Yes. In fact, many customers simply buy our Personal Zimbra Hosting
accounts at $3.99/month each just for secure, outbound email of large
attachments (SMTP). You can be up and running in minutes, and you get
our 24/7 support.
We ask that you sign up for one mailbox for each person who is going
to use our service. By using port 587, you can usually outwit your
local ISP's blocking port 25, and send outbound mail through 01.com
from wherever you happen to be. We accept up to 50MB attachment sizes,
and use SSL to secure the connection between your computer and our
outbound (smtp) mail server. Because we use 256-bit SSL to secure SMTP
transit, your data is secure even if you're sending from an otherwise
insecure network, such as a public wi-fi network at your local coffee
shop or an airport.
Although 01.com supports sending 50MB attachments, there's no
guarantee your recipient's email service will allow them to *accept*
such large attachments. Therefore, many customers who purchase
mailboxes for sending large attachments also purchase accounts for
their customers, as it provides a convenient conduit to send large
attachments. In the included Zimbra webmail client, you can set the
Option to notify your customer that a message and file is there, per
the picture below.
While with 01.com's Zimbra hosting service you can send and receive
large attachments through a mail client, such as Outlook or Mail.app or
Thunderbird, many mail clients have practical attachment size
restrictions. For example, it is not recommended that you send
attachments of greater than 20 MB using Outlook, as it may crash
Outlook.
With the recent introduction of Zimbra 5, and the Zimbra Briefcase feature, we many more customers are using 01.com simply for convenient file sharing.
