Description:
This State government Agency with more than staff members supports and oversees 3,000 private attorneys who represent indigent clients in criminal and civil court cases. Email is a critical piece of the Agency’s daily operations, and they were seeking a reliable and well-supported alternative that might also deliver features such as Outlook synchronization, calendaring and contact sharing.
In 2006, 01.com worked with this Agency to migrate off of their existing, pop email server onto the feature-rich Zimbra Collaboration Suite. For security and familiarity reasons, the Agency preferred the Macintosh OS X server operating system.
01.com worked with Apple to specify and order Apple Xserves for the Agency, optimize the operating system environment, install Zimbra and 256-bit public SSL certificates to secure communications, and in one night migrate the Agency to the new Zimbra system.
Now with a more reliable solution, with data backed up between the two servers for access in case of disaster, and a better performing solution, with multiple high-performance Xserve servers, the Agency staff could continue to POP their email as usual, and also gained access to new features, including secure IMAP, the state-of-the-art Zimbra Ajax webmail interface, and the Zimbra Outlook connector (ZCO) to sync calendars, contacts and tasks with Microsoft's popular desktop software.
At the Agency’s request, 01.com flew a trainer to help train the IT team supporting Zimbra for the Agency’s staff. This week of training enabled the Agency to hit the ground running, covering best practices and the most common support issues of that time.
01.com’s tier 3 systems engineers manage monitoring and upgrades for the servers and 01.com’s 24 x 7 help desk team still acts as tier 2 support for the Agency’s technical help desk. The Agency leverages the 01.com’s broad and deep experience supporting Zimbra to prevent or quickly diagnose both systematic and support issues.
