Notify Technology is a
company that makes the NotifyLink server software for synchronizing
groupware over-the-air to various PDA's. As of January, 2009, while Zimbra servers
deliver "push" mail and sync directly with Windows Mobile, iPhone and Palm devices over-the-air,
Zimbra requires integration with a BES or NotifyLink server to sync Blackberry
calendar, contacts, tasks and email. 01.com maintains its own servers and runs
both BES and NotifyLink in-house. Also note that NotifyLink software may be used for
greater policy control and enterprise security on Windows Mobile and
Palm devices, as well as access to the Zimbra GAL.
01.com supports Zimbra's direct integration with BES (RIM's Blackberry
Enterprise Server). 01.com offers a free public beta for its BES service until general release. Our BES service is scheduled for general release in December 1, 2009, with pricing at $99.99/year/device thereafter. For more information about native Blackberry sync with BES, please see our BES FAQ.
Notify requires that you download its software onto your devices, and while it performs somewhat more slowly than BES, if
you've tried Notify in the past and not been satisfied with its
performance, we encourage you to try again, because recent upgrades
have made the service materially more reliable.
NotifyLink is not necessary for Blackberry devices if you are simply
using the POP gateway of your cellular provider. This type of services
is free-of-charge. NotifyLink provides the extra service of synching
mail, so that what you read on your Blackberry shows as read in your
inbox, and synchronizing your tasks, calendar and contacts. This type of
service is extra, for Notify we charge $15/month per device, no activation fee. See Pricing.
Please note that the Zimbra Outlook Connector may not be compatible with the Blackberry Desktop manager. For Outlook users, we recommend using the OTA syncing capability provided by NotifyLink instead of the desktop manager if you want to sync your Blackberry. The convenience of this untethered synchronization is valuable, and you're welcome to try the service free-of-charge during your trial period, or in any given month prior to a billing analysis.
