Notify Technology is a
company that makes the NotifyLink server software for synchronizing
groupware over-the-air to various PDA's. As of August, 2007, while it
syncs directly with Windows Mobile and Palm devices over-the-air,
Zimbra requires integration with a NotifyLink server to sync Blackberry
calendar, contacts and email. 01.com maintains its own servers and runs
NotifyLink in-house. Also note that NotifyLink software may be used for
greater policy control and enterprise security on Windows Mobile and
Palm devices, as well as access to the Zimbra GAL.
01.com will support Zimbra's direct integration with BES (Blackberry
Enterprise Server) once tested in general release. Timing for this
introduction is not yet set. While the BES is currently in Beta with
Zimbra, it is not yet supportable in our shared server environment. At
this time, we recommend using NotifyLink in production environments. If
you've tried Notify in the past and not been satisfied with its
performance, we encourage you to try again, because recent upgrades
have made the service materially more reliable. Most of the 01.com team
uses Blackberry's with NotifyLink service (the rest use iPhones).
NotifyLink is not necessary for Blackberry devices if you are simply
using the POP gateway of your cellular provider. This type of services
is free-of-charge. NotifyLink provides the extra service of synching
mail, so that what you read on your Blackberry shows as read in your
inbox, and synchronizing your calendar and contacts. That type of
service is extra. See Pricing.
Please note that the Zimbra Outlook Connector may not be compatible with the Blackberry Desktop manager. For Outlook users, we recommend using the OTA syncing capability provided by NotifyLink instead of the desktop manager if you want to sync your Blackberry. The convenience of this untethered synchronization is valuable, and you're welcome to try the service free-of-charge during your trial period, or in any given month prior to a billing analysis.
